  • There were several new memberships at the Booster table

• Jazz Band to visit Middle Schools to generate excitement to continue in Music program in High School

• T-Shirts – to get before December Concert,

  • use same design and order on gray shirts    

  • Jeff will order enough to get discounted rate

  • New design for next year – can we do a Google form, so kids vote on next T-Shirt design

• DVD for Platinum members – Jeff to provide disks and material, Yiyi to assist burning DVDs

Music Report

• Marching Band TOB (Tournament of Bands) was cancelled last week due to weather.

  • 10/23 is Regional Championship

  • 10/30 is State Championship

• Nov 11 – Fall Preview at 7 pm

  • Live audience, tickets may be issued to control numbers, 1 seat between family units

  • Boosters will Livestream the concert on https://livestream.com/eastmusicboosters and social media.

  • Every music group will perform 1 number.

  • Vicky offered to cover table and Jodi to join after marching band presents.

• December – Winter Instrumental Concert

• Spring will have Kaleidoscope and Coffee House

• Would a small scholarship to Seniors, a mention in graduation booklet and certificate be more meaningful than a plaque? Discussion needed about available funds and appropriate gift.

New Business & Outreach

• Encouragement of getting Orchestra parents involved in Music Boosters

• Video by kids to encourage support of Music Boosters to be shown at events

• New T-Shirts

  • Try to get before Fall Preview or Winter Concert in December. Use same design and order minimal amounts plus extras, possibly on gray shirt so can use same  design. Check in-stock inventory due to supply chain issues.

  • Existing stock of T-Shirts can be given away to people signing up at upcoming concerts.

August 16, 2021 - At Jim's House

Regular Monthly Meeting

Music Report

• Marching Band

  • Band camp starts 8/17/21, which is earlier than in past years.  This time frame will continue into future seasons.

  • Show is being commissioned specifically for East from Key Poulan Music based off of a Puccini opera.

  • Membership numbers have gone down because of Covid.  As of now, there are approximately 70 members.

  • Students are working on a 3 foot social distancing rule with masks being worn inside.

  • East/West game is October 29th (Halloween weekend)

• Fall Preview and Winter Concerts will take place this school year.

• Field trips will be taking place.

Membership Report

• Membership still low (1 new member) since the last meeting.

• We will need to increase membership this school year to maintain boosters.

​

Treasurer’s Report

• Tax return was filed

• $20,000 has been allocated to the various music accounts.

• $764 has been spent by Boosters

• $34 has been brought in

• Boosters have received some beneficiary grants

Golf Cart

• This was donated by the Liebmans, but needs a new battery

• Inquire if anyone can donate a lift - $850 will otherwise need to be charged against Booster accounts.  The District will not pay for rental of the lift

• Wednesday and Saturday of this week is final week for Les Miserables project

• Successful East Coffee House this week

• Spring Concert

  • Monday May 24 and Tuesday May 25

  • Not sure if outside or inside

    • Auditorium may not be in shape

    • Outdoors will not require masks or bell covers.

• May need parent volunteers to move equipment

• Little Shop of Horrors

  • May have pit band outside to warm up crowd

  • Will have students moving equipment

  • Final product came out well

• 101 seniors total

• Propose to go back to music faculty to cut this number to approximately 30 of the most involved seniors.

• Boosters fund 4-5 named scholarships at $300-$500 a piece

• T-shirts should be available for people who did join if they were promised them.

• Suggestion to order shirts for this year without dates and use extras for next year

Treasurer’s Report

 

• We are at a shortfall of $2,500 between what was spent and what was brought in

• Approximately $25,000 in the bank (approximately $27,500 to start)

• We have raised $2600 raised this year as compared to the $8,500 raised last year, and approx.. $13,000 raised in previous years. Much of this is due to the auditorium being closed last year and pandemic starting in March 2020.

• d. The goal right now is to stabilize finances.

Vocal Report (get email from Jim)

• 14 students in virtual all SJ chorus

• Auditions for 2021-22 school year are being submitted through google classroom and teachers hope to have lists to counselors by end of March

• Lead of Jagged Little Pill, Elizabeth Stanley, did Master Class with Voce and East Singers.

• 15th Annual East Coffee House hosted by East Singers will be a pre-recorded virtual event April 17th at 7:00 p.m. Auditions are open to all East students through virtual classroom.

Instrumental Report

 

• Music teachers are moving forward with guidelines to have students playing instruments in school again.

• Pit orchestra has already been rehearsing for Little Shop of Horrors. Students are social distancing and not sharing equipment.

• Les Miserables project is still on track for April

• String players have been able to rehearse

• Pit is recording first week in March

• Dates are set for April 30 and May 1

• Spring musical – Little Shop of Horrors 

  • Go ahead to start practicing

  • Pit band will come in after school

  • No wind brass or strings (rock band) – only 10 or so students

  • Pit will be recorded playing and cast record themselves singing along

  • Final project will be all virtual – drive in movie

• March-April project – Dancing with the Cherry Hill Stars

  • Orchestra will be practicing with them and selections of Les Miserables

  • Will be recorded outside

  • Student entrance will be turned into concert area and drones will video signers outside

• Spring Concerts

  • Hope to go forward as scheduled in May

• Potential for jazz band festivals

Music Report

• Vocal

  • East singers had a productive online visit with Kyle Pederson, the composer of one of their songs.

  • This week, Patty Irwin is doing workshop on vocal performance

  • On Wednesday, they will meet with Montclair choral director Dr. Heather Buchanan and former East student Harrison Smith

  • Yesterday was registration for Hamilton workshop, but the link will stay on the booster website through the end of the week.

  • All choirs are focusing on individual technique and theory.  Some concert pieces have been learned, but groups cannot sing indoors.

• • Marching band

    • Wrapped up season.  Couldn’t do last 2 games because of covid problems in athletics.

    • Great ending with festival in Wash Twp.

    • Homecoming was best performance of the season

    • Great awards day/end of the season for seniors.

    • Tomorrow and Wednesday – drum line will welcome back students

    • There will be uniform collection

  • Classes

    • Everyone is working online as best as possible

    • Hoping to open up in new year

    • Students cannot play wind instruments inside together

 

Membership Report

• Membership still low (25 members) -- $2269 cash

• Theater booster membership is similar.

 

Treasurer’s Report

• Incoming money – another $100 or so earned for Amazon Smile

• Some carryover donation money

• Total inbound money:  $3500 plus $2500 from kids to cover costs = $6000

• Outbound funds of $10,000 for marching band, vocal and instrumental

• Still need to cover cherry picker.  Some money left over in marching band clearing account ($9,000).  Board voted to move $1,000 of that money to cover cherry picker.
